Hi Max, I look forward to reading you. Your article doesn't disappoint. Thanks!

(However: first paragraph, second sentence:

"A bad judge isn't necessarily one who doesn't have a bias, but one who works tirelessly to remove it." At least one of us has a problem with that sentence.)

Clarence Thomas recently expressed his outrage at how the recent leak of the draft opinion caused public support for the Court to erode dramatically, leading to potentially dire consequences for our country. He is correct about our disgust with this Court, but remains obstinately clueless about its cause.

Our country is disgusted by a Court that demands respect but which deserves none. Thomas's failure to recuse himself after his wife's treasonous behavior is certainly a factor. The blatant deceit of Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and Barrett during their confirmation hearings is another. It demonstrated a level of dishonesty unworthy of an ordinary citizen, let alone a Supreme Court justice. And, as you point out, Alito's failure to even attempt a basic level of impartiality is nauseating.

These Justices have only themselves to blame for the contempt directed at them. The Supreme Court was intended to serve as a check-and-balance against the illicit use of force by the other branches of government. This unelected Court has inverted its purpose and now illegally imposes its will --not its impartial legal judgments -- to obtain the political outcomes it has long sought. Like Trump, it is willing to shatter what remains here of trust, and to dissolve what little glue still holds us together, to get what it wants.
